The University of Buckingham Foundation, a charity
(reg charity no 1094042), was created in 2002 to support and
aspects of education of the students who attend the University; to
benefit the wider academic community and purposes of the University
as a whole, and to promote all aspects of academic research.
The University of Buckingham is the only independent university
in the UK and was founded in 1973. Its founding Principal was Max
Beloff who believed firmly in institutional independence.
Buckingham is different from all other universities in the UK in
that it is completely free to make decisions about the education
and care of its students. It has one of the highest staff : student
ratios in the UK and, in particular, offers its students small
group teaching and individual mentoring. It is a multi-cultural
institution and has students from over 80 different countries. In a
world where civilisations clash, Buckingham fosters tolerance and
It took moral courage for the founders of Buckingham, over 30
years ago, to create this centre of scholarship and research free
of state direction. Since then, the University has relied on fee
income and the generosity of its donors to support its work and
sustain its growth. The Foundation is now seeking major financial
support for scholarships, professorships, fabric renovation and
construction of new buildings. This will enable the University to
enter its next period of growth and become stronger and more
relevant and influential than ever before both in the UK and the
rest of world.
Do join us in supporting the one institution of higher education
in the UK which has throughout its history demonstrated a courage
and care no other university can match.
